A sometimes overlooked skin concern related to acne-prone skin is skin discomfort and irritation. Acne care products typically focus on high strength actives to get rid of the acne, but these same high strength actives can irritate or dry out sensitive skin.

And for those with sensitive skin that also deal with acne, finding the right skincare for your skin can be a hit or miss. You have to be extra conscious about what’s in your skincare because your skin can’t tolerate just any skincare product.

Sensitive skin types are often advised to stay away from skincare products with alcohols and   fragrance, among other potential irritants. This sometimes includes limitations when it comes to using actives that are known to help treat acne, like using lower strength concentrations.

Unfortunately, with sensitive skin you can become all too familiar with breakouts or reactions from new skincare products if you're not careful.

That’s why we thought it was necessary to formulate a collection meant for those with sensitive skin and acne.

Re-introducing our soothing collection

Our soothing collection started with the Soothing Blemish Patch. Infused with Tea Tree, Aloe, and Madecassic Acid (a compound of Centella Asiatica), the Soothing Blemish Patch works best for irritated and itchy pimples. The whole purpose of the Soothing Blemish Patch is to offer a patch specifically meant to calm and restore the area of the blemish.

With a similar purpose in mind, we then developed the Barrier Support Moisturizer to soothe blemish-prone skin. This moisturizer was formulated to work best for those who have acne and sensitized skin. Often acne treatments can dry out and/or irritate the skin. The Barrier Support Moisturizer is meant to replenish the skin after using such strong treatments.

Formulated with 6 types of Hyaluronic Acid and multiple Ceramides, our barrier moisturizer helps the skin barrier recover from dryness and irritation. The blend of these ingredients also help nourish and deeply hydrate the skin without a greasy feel. The lightweight gel-cream hybrid formula helps the skin feel hydrated but not heavy.

The latest addition, the Post-Blemish Corrector, was developed as the step after you’ve used a blemish patch and are left with any lingering pot-blemish discoloration or dryness. Sometimes after using a patch or another acne spot treatment you may be left with a dry, flaky spot or even with some lingering redness or darkened spot.

The Post-Blemish Corrector would be used as an after care step to help reduce flaking and discoloration. Made with 3% Niacinamide and 2% Tranexamic Acid, this brightening combo helps minimize redness and dark spots while Ceramide hydrates and repairs.

The collection as a whole is meant to help support acne-prone skin via calming formulas that tackle the effects that come with acne including dryness and irritation.

How to use the soothing collection in your routine

The soothing collection lends itself well to fitting into any routine without disrupting much of your usual flow.

Step 1: Cleanser

Apply your usual daily cleanser, or double cleanse if you prefer.

Step 2: Soothing Blemish Patch

While this may not be a daily step in your routine, the Soothing Blemish Patch should be applied onto clean, dry skin (before your serums or moisturizer).

Anytime an irritated pimple pops up, you can apply the Soothing Blemish Patch and leave it on for 6 to 8 hours after which you can remove and discard.

Step 3: Post-Blemish Corrector

Similar to the Soothing Blemish Patch, the Post-Blemish Corrector can be used on an as needed basis. You may not always have post-blemish marks to treat so it is very much up to the user when you need to apply the corrector.

Apply a small amount of the corrector straight to the spot and pat it in until fully absorbed. You can apply it up to twice a day as needed. And as a bonus the lightweight texture makes it great for use underneath makeup.

Step 4: Barrier Support Moisturizer

After applying any other treatment or serums, you can end your routine with the Barrier Support Moisturizer. Typically one to two pumps of the moisturizer should be enough for your face and neck. But, depending on your skin’s needs you can always apply a few more pumps if your skin is extra dry or even if you want to apply to other dry areas of the skin like the hands and elbows.

Side note: If this is your AM routine, then the barrier moisturizer would be your second to last step, followed by sunscreen.

To wrap up…

With lots of OTC and high strength actives on the market for acne care, the skin can go through some rough products. If you overdo some acne treatments, you can end up damaging the skin barrier, triggering breakouts or dryness.

While it has long been practice to get rid of acne by drying it out, there have since been lots of products that help minimize acne without compromising the skin. The soothing collection was initially created to fill the space of the gentle, but effective formulas that help provide that recovery step for acne-prone skin types.
